Wooden Boat Show 2018
Southport’s upcoming Wooden Boat Show is the focus of the First Friday Reception at the Franklin Square Gallery on September 7th. The Associated Artists of Southport (AAS) cordially invite you to attend this event to meet Tony Alderman.
Tony’s winning acrylic painting, ‘She Stood the Test’, is this year’s winner of the Wooden Boat Show poster contest. Tony will be at the Gallery from 5:00 to 7:00 on September 7th signing posters generously donated by the Ricky Evans Gallery. Signed posters and t-shirts will be available for purchase and refreshments will also be served.
All works submitted for the Wooden Boat Show poster contest will hang in Franklin Square Gallery from September 7 through Saturday, September 29.
When asked about his inspiration for ‘She Stood the Test’, Tony replied, "When I thought about the image I wanted to paint for the boat show, I immediately thought of the Cape Point that is owned by Royce and April Potter of Potter Seafood. Not only is it the last working shrimp boat in Southport, it is also a wooden boat. The amount of care and upkeep a boat like this takes is truly a labor of love.”
A donated wooden skiff will be raffled off as part of the Wooden Boat Show. The skiff will be on display outside of the Gallery during the September 7thFirst Friday Gallery reception. Be sure to get your wooden skiff raffle tickets at the Gallery or at the front desk of the NC Maritime Museum. Tickets are: 1 for $2, 3 for $5, and 7 for $10.
